ESR 1 – Essa Qasem Shahra

Project Title: Context-Aware Framework Design for Heterogeneous Network Devices in IoT Enabled Smart Water Networks  

Description: The increase number of wireless communication standards in the IoT ecosystem has contributed to the availability of rich number o technologies when addressing the design of IoT solutions for specific use cases. By IoT solutions, it is understood the combination of physical sensors and actuators, wireless communication standard for the exchange of information, data management and analysis, and presentation of information to the end-user and the provision of dashboards for control purposes.

This research project will address the challenges to design a context-aware framework in heterogeneous sensor and  network device for smart water distribution networks by applying a deep analysis on the necessary remote, in-situ, real-time and continuous data from monitor; cost-effective sensors, instrumentation and actuators; communication standards; communication nodes embedding; and computing operations involved.

 ESR 2 – Job Vacancy

 Project Title: Interoperable Framework and Dynamic Web Platform for Integrated Knowledge Management in IoT enabled Smart Water Networks.

Description: Urban water data from IoT devices could be considered as big data. It is not only large in volume, it is multi modal, varies in quality, format, representation form and levels of dynamicity. This data needs to be processed; aggregated and higher-level abstractions need to be created from the data to make it suitable for complex event processing and knowledge extraction with the ultimate goal to enable intelligent applications and services for decision.

This research project will investigate large-scale stream processing solutions to interlink data from IoTs and to extract real-time information for the sustainable and smart water applications. Then, iteratively applied processing layers, covering integration of heterogeneous data streams, large-scale IoT stream processing, and real-time information processing and knowledge extraction has to be integrated in a common framework.

 ESR 3 – Haitham Hassan M. Mahmoud

 Project Title: Data intelligence and Security for Smart Water Network Management in IoT

Description: Cyber-Physical Systems (CPSs) are the core drivers of the optimal networking of real-time monitoring water systems in the implementation of Water 4.0. This facilitates the intelligent networking of water users to maintain the sustainability of water infrastructure, but this will increase the need for mitigating the risks more than ever using cyber and physical security framework. Cyber-physical system Security (CPSS) and decision making have attracted a lot of research attention due to increasing the entry points for the attackers to the system as the result of the upgrading of the water networks into smart ones.

This research investigates data intelligence and security for smart water network management through insights from sensor data to IoT environment to help utilities to better manage, secure and transform the vast amounts of disparate data received from various devices, assets, systems, and stakeholders in actionable information that can guide executive and operational decision-making.
